FAQ about Currants

Dried grapes are called raisins, sultanas or currants. They are generally referred to as “raisins”. Rapunzel sultanas and raisins are made from light grapes of the same variety. The only difference is that sultanas are dipped and remain lighter in colour. “Dipping” is the brief immersion of the grapes into a solution of water and potash. Raisins are not dipped and need to dry longer. Currants are small, blue grapes without a seed, which owe their name to the Greek port city of Corinth, in whose region the grape is preferentially grown.
