Ten theses on agricultural engineering

Why our world must remain GMO-free
1. Genetic engineering – is against the people's will!
The majority of the population is against genetic engineering and wants a naturally-operated agriculture that supports ethical concepts with respect to animal and plant care.
2. Varieties from the lab – have no reference to nature and the environment
Natures provides us with opportunities and possibilities to solve the world's problems without GMO.
3. Genetically manipulated plants spread unchecked
Once GMO plants are released into nature we cannot recall them. GMO plants significantly threaten global biodiversity.
4. Risk technology
Genetically manipulated plants and animals confront us with unpredictable events. The effects on the genetic materials cannot be predetermined.
5. Health risks
The precise effects of genetically modified nutrition on humans has not yet been examined in depth. People should not be made to test subjects without their expressed consent.
6. Co-existence with GMO is not possible
Pollen contaminated with GMO (genetically manipulated organisms) are spread through wind and insects in an unpredictable way. The simultaneous cultivation of similar, GMO-free plants is no longer possible.
7. Several powerful corporations control our foodstuff
Genetically manipulated plants and animals are patented and provide large seed corporations new opportunities for dominating the food market.
8. Genetically manipulated plants threaten organic cultivation
Also the new EU regulations prohibit the use of genetically manipulated plants in organic products. A "contamination" of organic products for example through pollen from GMO-fields to a concentration of up to 0.9 percent must however not be marked on the organic products. Therefore, consumers have no way to recognize a contamination.
9. More pesticides through GMO-plants
Most GMO-plants were made resistent to pesticides. But weeds also become resistent! This starts a useless cycle with more and more aggressive pesticides.
10. No solution for the global food problem
The famine in third world countries has mainly to do with poor food distribution and a lack of purchasing power. More genetic engineering is not the answer!

Rapunzels commitment for a GMO-free world

  • already in 2007, Rapunzel was active with the GENFREI GEHEN campaign - a march for a GMO-free world
  • in 2017, Rapunzel initiated the FOODprint campaign with many partners; in a common position paper, we have demanded politicians to officially control genome editing methods.
