Home-made in the Allgäu region: Muesli, porridge and flakes

Locally grown flakes, freshly roasted nuts and sun-kissed dried fruit
Once upon a time, back in 1974: Joseph Wilhelm, Rapunzel founder, and his friends were working on his first muesli recipe in their mutually-shared kitchen. It had to be healthy (without sugar and other additives) and, needless to say, taste great. This is how the first Rapunzel muesli – the original muesli – was created from wholemeal flakes, nuts, buckwheat, seeds, and sultanas.
And, since it was so well received, they ended up mixing more and more, ultimately even using a bathtub for space reasons. A great deal has happened since that time: Not only has our founder’s hairstyle changed; the scope of production has, too, and the bathtub is now a museum piece. What hasn’t changed is that we still mix all mueslis and porridges at the Rapunzel headquarters in the Allgäu region.

And it goes without saying that we have remained true to one very important topic to this very day: We use no genetic engineering, flavourings or the like. As nature is naturally 100 per cent perfect as it is.

Where do the ingredients for our mueslis, porridges and flakes grow?

Rapunzel flakes are made from whole grains and sourced from organic crop growers in Germany. The farmers create valuable habitats for numerous species by means of perennial crop rotations on small fields, flower strips, fallow land, and hedges.

The sun-kissed dried fruit and crunchy hazelnuts come from our own cultivation projects. Incidentally, muesli was what triggered the Rapunzel Turkey cultivation project: As early as 1976, Joseph Wilhelm set off for Turkey in search of unsulphurised dried fruit and organic nuts.

The many other delicious ingredients are supplied by reliable cultivation partners with whom we have been cooperating in a trust-based spirit for many years.

Our quality assurance department scrutinises everything

All raw materials are carefully inspected after delivery. Rapunzel quality assurance employees take samples for testing, among others, sensory properties, appearance, moisture or microbiological quality. Renowned external laboratories then once again analyse the raw materials in detail. The ingredients are only processed further when they are flawless.

How does the muesli get into the bag?

Rapunzel employees fill the local flakes into the mixer together with the other valuable ingredients – finely weighed, and always depending on the recipe. Nuts and selected seeds are gently roasted in advance, in our own nut roasting plant. The mixer ensures the creation of a uniform mixture. This ensures that each bag of muesli contains as many nuts or berries as possible.

Our products are still made with the utmost care and love, even though everything has taken on larger dimensions than in the past.
