Rapunzel supports organic seed breeding
Donation to the Seed Fund of the "Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft"
Seed breeding is expensive, cumbersome and takes several years. It also requires expert knowledge and experience as well as financial means - most organic seed breeders have only limited financial resources. For that reason, the "Zukunftsstifung Landwirtschaft" initiated a Seed Fund that supports organic breeders. Rapunzel welcomes this initiative and donated 5,000 Euro to the fund. Joseph Wilhelm presented the check to Amadeus Zschunke from Sativa, the organic seed supplier from Switzerland. The natural health food producer plans to support the organic seed fund on a regular basis in order to propagate organic seeds.
Rapunzel has been supporting the breeding of organic and seedfast, non-hybrid seeds for a long time. For several years, Rapunzel has been cooperating with the organic seed breeder Sativa that developed the organic tomato variety Mauro Rosso for Rapunzel. The Mauro Rosso variety is used for the manufacturing of Rapunzel's tomato sauces.
Rapunzel has been supporting Sativa directly through this business cooperation. The donations to the Seed Fund, on the other hand, are a benefit for all organic seed breeders, because the fund helps organic seed breeding companies to finance their work. Seeds are a cultural heritage; a targeted, specific support is needed to protect this cultural heritage.

What is behind the seed fund?
The Seed Fund from the "Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft" supports specifically non-profit, organic and organic-dynamic seed breeding research. Since its foundation in 1996, the fund has been supporting the visionary work of numerous vegetable, cereal and fruit breeding initiatives. Until today, through the work of the Seed Fund more than 60 new vegetable and cereal varieties have been developed for organic agriculture. The Seed Fund is administered by the "Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft" that in turn supports organic agriculture and is organized as a non-profit, dependent foundation within the GLS Treuhand Inc.
