Samba celebrates its 30th birthday
New products Samba Almond & Dark Chocolate-Coconut cream join the party
Samba’s little sister, Samba Almond, is made with 48% roasted almonds instead of hazelnuts. Apart from that, the successful original Samba recipe with exquisite cocoa, Allgäu whole milk, valuable Rapadura whole cane sugar, fair trade palm oil and a dash of vanilla is the same! Like all Rapunzel nut creams and nut butters Samba Almond is manufactured at Rapunzel headquarters in Legau.
Although it isn't Samba, the new Dark Chocolate-Coconut creams is also extremely delicious and made with fair trade ingredients from Rapunzel HAND IN HAND partners. This melt-in-the mouth, intensely chocolate-tasting spread is made with 38 % finely ground coconut rasps, 18 % aromatic cocoa, cane sugar, palm oil, a pinch of sea salt and a dash of high-quality vanilla.
Rapunzel’s sweet bread spreads have long become classics and are available in many different variations and sizes. But how did all this start? On the occasion of Samba’s 30th birthday we take a look back.
The beginning of a success story
The birth of Samba dates back to the late 1980s. Joseph Wilhelm’s children asked their father for “little sweet sins“ such as chocolate or nut nougat butter. This inspired the Rapunzel founder to conduct first trials in his farm kitchen for an organic butter made with cocoa and nuts.
In search for new raw materials, Joseph Wilhelm travelled around the world. This is how the Samba recipe evolved and good and long-term partnerships were developed for Rapadura whole cane sugar, cocoa, palm oil and vanilla.
